Whatâs included?
This download includes one âmonths of the yearâ word search in colour AND black and white. There are x4 pages in total, all portrait orientation in pdf format.
The x12 months and x4 seasons of the year are hidden in a x10 by x10 square grid, with the hidden words clearly listed in four (seasonal) groups underneath.
The answers (on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) for easy comparison and quick reference.
Whoâs it for?
This word search has been carefully designed to encourage young readers in the early years and pupils in years one and two (as well as students needing additional learning support) with reading key words.
Knowing these time-related words (the months of the year and seasons) both reading them on-sight and learning the correct spellings will benefit both reading and writing.
Resource layout
Page 1
The words for the twelve months have been organised into groups of four according to which season they are part of. The box for each season has been colour coded (in the colour version) to make this clearer, the âseason wordâ for each group is also hidden within the word search. There are x16 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards). Words to find are; Winter, December, January, February, Spring, March, April, May, Summer, June, July, August, Autumn, September, October and November (all are hidden as lower case letters).
Page 2
The layout is exactly the same design as page 1 making cross referencing the answers quick and easy and encouraging learners to be autonomous. The position of the hidden words is made clear by the colour coded lines as well as a small arrow to the left of each word which identifies the direction of the hidden word.
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a âhighlighterâ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. If words are instead âcrossed outâ this makes the letters harder to read and identify. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused.

double sided (back to back) version also available
Whatâs it for?

Whatâs included?
This pdf download includes x4 landscape orientation sheets featuring every letter (and full word labels) to make the two words âHelloâ and âWelcomeâ with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate letters/words for (window) display.
Whatâs it for?
These letters have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the letters look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the coloured letter shape âfallsâ depends on the position of the letters in relation to the sun which changes as the sunâs position changes.
These letters/words are ideal for displaying on a glass panel on a classroom door, offering a different and interesting âwelcomeâ to visitors to your classroom/learning space and obviously encourage learners to recognise and read these words. I have included the full set of alphabet letters (upper AND lower case letters) as separate listings in my TES shop. - these could be good for displaying on a glass panel on a classroom door. Uppercase letters /teaching-resource/-13180352 Lowercase letters /teaching-resource/-13180342
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two though would suit any window where those who see the letters/words would appreciate a pop of colour shining through letters/words when the sun comes out!
Resource Details
The letters are all in the font âSassoon Infant Stdâ - size 220-250, so a clear, âeasy to readâ size. There are x4 pages. The first page includes clear step-by-step instructions and the remaining pages includes the separate letters to make the words âWelcomeâ and âHelloâ (with exclamation marks!) The last page (4) includes the two words as one-word labels.
Suggestions
Printing and making these letters out of white card is recommended - paper is too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are pretty inexpensive on Amazon(!)
Also recommend also backing every letter/each word in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much sharper on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time.

Whatâs included?
This download includes x1 portrait orientation pdf to make an âAdvent Candle Countdown Calendarâ to count down the December days from the 1st to the 24th.
Whatâs it for?
This countdown has been designed to be used for by an individual/group or class to countdown the days to Christmas together. It has been designed to be made by or with an adult - an adult leading the way with what the steps are and a child/learner helping with these as they are able.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students with additional learning needs. An older, able, pupil may be able to make this âwithâ or âforâ a younger learner in a paired activity, working together.
Resource Details
Everything needed for the finished Advent Candle Countdown Calendar is included on the pdf. There are six main instructions and additional, detailed, information positioned next to the relevant parts to make what to do clearer. The main task is to cut along the red dotted lines to cut the candle shape out and separate the âflapsâ which will fold over the image (for each day) to hide it.
Numbers are provided to stick onto these flaps (in order from the base of the candle to the top), or these numbers can be written by hand instead - whatever is preferred/easiest.
Learners will need a pencil (to write their name), a pair of scissors, a glue stick and a small ball of Blue Tac (the size of a small marble) - this piece of Blue Tac will then be made into x24 teeny tiny balls which are used to secure the flaps closed until it is the date to be opened.
Suggestions
This pdf will need to be printed onto white card or it wonât be strong enough to stand up by itself.
Double sided sticky tape might be a better alternative to secure the candle shape together (instead of using the glue stick). Glue/double-sided sticky tape is to be applied to the single purple strip, positioned vertically on the right hand side of the pdf.
Read the six steps carefully before beginning to help make the process as easy as possible.

Whatâs included?
x6 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. x8 images and matching x8 words to sound out and read as well as match to images.
Whatâs it for?
This 'Phase 2/3â picture and word matching set has been designed to be a simple activity to consolidate learning. This set focuses on sounds within Phase 2 AND Phase 3.
This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult.
Whoâs it for?
This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs.
How to use it?
Each learner sounds out the graphemes printed on the âword cardsâ then matches these to the and âstand up character/picture cardsâ. There are x8 pictures and word cards to match.
Resource DetailsâŠ
Each word card has a coloured triangle (top, left). Pink indicates these words are using Phase 2 sounds. Purple indicates that these words use Phase 3 sounds. Red graphemes indicate that these sounds might be more tricky as different people can pronounce these sounds differently. E.g. the âerâ in the word âcrackerâ many people pronounce this as an âuhâ or âaâ sound. Learners may need support with these (red) graphemes.
ALL images/words featured here have been chose because they CAN be sounded out - the âtickâ pictured on the coloured (pink/purple) triangle indicates that these words can be sounded out.
The words included are listed here:
Phase 2 Words
elf
robin
Santa
Phase 3 Words
cracker
tree
Nutcracker
snowman
pudding

The Harvest Festival words have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x21 words to find in total and nouns are illustrated on page 1.
These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards). Words to find are; gather, give thanks (no space), hay, scarecrow, september, crow, coming, harvester, hoe, field, tractor, corn, grain, nuts, seeds, wheat, berry, courgette, fruit, peas and vegetables.
Recommendations
I recommend that learners use a âhighlighterâ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible (if words are instead âcrossed outâ this makes the letters harder to read and identify). This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused.
